Position Summary
The Peer Recovery Specialist engages, inspires, and encourages clients and their families, and provides natural supports to actively support the participants' treatment plan. The Peer Recovery Specialist provides information, education, and resources to caretakers so they can be better prepared to bring out the best in their loved one. Additionally, the Peer Recovery Specialist responds to critical situations with high-level engagement and de-escalation skills which support families experiencing an emergency related to a behavioral health challenge. The Peer Support uses a holistic, integrated approach to providing collaborative care to address mental health, medical, and other resource needs. This approach has an integrated perspective and increases the ability for the client and/or family to access their needs and goals while learning self-management tools for ongoing success. The Peer Recovery Specialist works as a part of a team that includes therapists, intensive care managers and direct service provider.
Required Qualifications
BHPP: Demonstrates lived experience as a parent or primary caregiver of a child with behavioral health care needs that needed behavioral health services. Bilingual is highly preferred.

BHT: Minimum of a high school diploma and at least 2 years of behavioral health experience (may be combined educational and work experience). OR, An individual with a bachelor’s degree (any) and at least 1 year experience in behavioral health. OR, An individual with a bachelor’s degree in a human services related field. OR, An individual who completes a behavioral Health Technician training program through an educational institution. OR, An individual with a master’s degree in a human services related field and is not licensed.
